Our body's ability to adapt is incredible, but welcome to America where we unfortunately lead a very sedentary lifestyle. Over the past 30 years technology has taken us by storm to the point where we are sitting more and more every day. We have even tried to come up with scare tactics with quotes that say "Sitting is the NEW Smoking". This is in reference to how our cardiovascular system can be drastically impacted by leading such a sedentary lifestyle.

Have you ever gone on a long road trip and sat in your car for hours on end? Well I sure have and you know my body feels pretty good in that soft comfortable chair. But all of a sudden when I stop the car and try to move, WOW is my body stiff! My body has adapted to that new way of living. It has been proven that if we can keep the body moving it will work so much better. Our muscles can warm-up, lengthen, and be in their natural state when we are up and moving but when we are sitting our muscles tend to get shorter, maybe pull on each other a bit more, and pain can start to increase with the slightest movement.

The Most recent craze to counteract this soreness, stiffness, and risk of develop other health issues has come from the fitness tracker/wearable activity tracker market. If you have a Fitbit and you and you sit for too long it will vibrate and tell you to get up and move. Researchers understand the importance of movement and yet so many people still ignore those prompts.

Below are a few simple exercises that anyone can do from their chairs. You don't need any fancy equipment. With having been asked to stay at home for the next few weeks we need to make sure that we try to avoid sitting for more than 45 minutes straight. So have some fun get the kids, get grandma, pause the movie and lets get moving!
