We are in our first day of social distancing here in Mendocino County and we have been asked to shelter in place due to the COVID-19 (Corona virus) pandemic. What this means is that we are limited on what we are allowed to do within our communities. We are allowed to go to work if it is medically a necessity, grocery shop, pick-up food from a restaurant, and fill up our gas tanks. This means that going to the gym is out, hiking with friends is out, going to the movies is out, playing group sports like soccer, football, basketball, volleyball is out. I think you get the point but what this means is that we have the opportunity to spend time with our families, get some well deserved R&R, and take time to cook quality, healthy, and nutritious meals.
Because you aren't able to go to the gym I have a a few at home challenges that you can do with your family that may get a few laughs. So clear a space in your living room, get your stretchy clothes on, and lets have some fun
Challenge #1: Getting up off the ground can be challenge but the real challenge is can we go from a seated position on the floor, and without using our hands, work our way to a standing position. Once you have perfected your way of getting up in the way, place a book or a plastic cup on your head. While balancing it without aid, try to sit all the way down, have your feet out in front of you, and then get back up without knocking it off your head.

Challenge #2: Place a pillow on the ground and kneel on the pillow with one knee. Have he other leg out front in a lunge position. Grab the ankle of the leg that is kneeling down, never let go, and without pushing up off the floor or your body with the other hand try and stand up with the other leg alone.

Challenge #3: Take a 8 1/2"x 11 piece of paper and fold it in half on its short edge and create a pyramid. Place it on the ground propped up. Stand on one foot and without placing your hands or using your other foot on the ground bend down and pick up the piece of paper only using your mouth

Challenge #4: Needed supplies. A bowl of dried beans, a set of chop-sticks, a new #2 pencil. This challenge is all bout our ability to use chop-sticks as well as eye hand coordination. The object is to see how many beans you can transfer from the bowl and balance the beans on-top of the #2 pencil in 2 minutes. If the it is too difficult to balance the beans on the pencil have a speed round to see how many means you can transfer from one bowl to the next using only one hand and one set of chop-sticks.

Challenge #5: The twister challenge. Many of us have access to the tried and true game of TWISTER. Dust off the box, pull it out, and have some fun. If your family happens to have a climbing wall you can play the same way just on the wall using climbing holds. try and color coordinate them similar to that of twister and have fun!
